Kailash Kher and Kailasa Live: A Kalaluha Night at Orion Mall

Some voices belong to the open air. On 7 October 2023, Padma Shri Kailash Kher and Band Kailasa took the stage at Lakeside at Orion Mall, Brigade Gateway, with the water behind the crowd and one of India's most distinctive voices in front of it. Kalaluha produced the night, with RED FM as radio partner and Kannada rap star Rahul Dit-O opening the evening. It remains one of the productions that defined our first year.

Who Kailash Kher is

The Padma Shri, one of the country's highest civilian honours, tells you how India regards Kailash Kher. The songs tell you why. He is the voice of Teri Deewani and Saiyyan, songs that long ago stopped being tracks and became shared property, the kind an entire crowd sings without being asked. With Band Kailasa he built a sound that moves between the devotional and the anthemic without ever losing its rooted, earthy centre. When a voice like that is on your stage, the producer's job is clear: build the night around it and then get out of its way.

Why Lakeside, and why it worked

Lakeside at Orion Mall, Brigade Gateway is not a conventional concert ground, and that was exactly its strength. An urban venue with water at its edge gave the evening an atmosphere no black-box arena can manufacture. It also gave our production team a very specific set of problems: sound design for an open waterfront setting, staging that framed the band against the location instead of hiding it, and audience flow through a live, functioning mall precinct. Solving venue problems like these is core Kalaluha work, the same discipline we now apply across every ground and palace lawn we produce on, and you can see the whole span of it in our services.

Building the bill

An evening is more than its headliner. Opening with Rahul Dit-O, one of the strongest voices in Kannada rap, was a deliberate choice: a rooted, local, contemporary artist warming the crowd for a rooted, national, timeless one. The pairing said something about how Kalaluha thinks. Kannada talent does not open shows as a courtesy on our stages, it opens them because it belongs there. Rahul Dit-O would go on to feature in later Kalaluha productions too, including Hip Hop Kannadigaru at The Leela Palace. With RED FM amplifying the show across the city as radio partner, the night reached far beyond the venue.

A first-year statement

Kalaluha was founded in 2023, and this production, in October of that very year, was an early declaration of scale and intent. Coverage of the event by Malls Market introduced it plainly: "Presented to you by Kalaluha, an initiative by Chethana RS." Behind that one line was a young company betting that Bengaluru would show up for a Padma Shri artist at a lakeside stage, and the city did. The lessons from that night, about venues, about billing, about trusting the audience, are baked into everything we have produced since, close to thirty shows and counting.
