Why Dr. Chethana R S Founded Kalaluha: Art, Fire and Empty Stages

Company names are usually chosen for how they sound. Kalaluha was chosen for what it commits to. Kala means art. Luha means blazing fire. Put together, the name is a promise that Indian art will not be presented politely and quietly, but staged with heat and scale. For Dr. Chethana R S, founding this company in 2023 was less a business decision than a declaration of what she believes stages are for.

A founding built on partnership

Kalaluha began as a family venture in the truest sense: Dr. Chethana founded it with her sibling and business partner Vishal R S. The pairing is deliberate and complementary. She brings the artist and the physician: 350+ dance shows across nine forms, 57+ art techniques, a therapeutic practice of more than 1,000 clients, and 53+ live TV programs in four languages. He brings the strategist: an IIT Roorkee alumnus who runs a money-management platform with over Rs 30 crore under management and serves companies as a virtual CFO. When Explocity covered the Shreya Ghoshal concert, it named both of them as the leadership behind the company's "creativity and dedication."

The mission, stated plainly

Kalaluha's mission is to bring India's art forms, music and stories onto bigger stages. Notice what that sentence does not say. It does not limit itself to one genre, one language or one kind of audience. And the company's slate has honoured that breadth: a sold-out Shreya Ghoshal night, Padma Shri Kailash Kher at Lakeside at Orion Mall, Sid Sriram for Krishna Janmashtami, Hiphop Tamizha at NICE Grounds, Kannada hip hop at The Leela Palace, Kannada DJ nights in Koramangala, celebrity cricket in memory of Puneeth Rajkumar, and devotional productions with vedic chants, abhishekam and annadana.

The public roadmap pushes further still: Music from the Valley, Yakshagana, Reformed and Chitramma, Live in Concert all sit on the slate. A company founded to give Indian art forms bigger stages is now inventing the stages itself.

The slogan as philosophy

Kalaluha's slogan is: every unforgettable night begins with an empty stage. It is worth sitting with, because it captures what founding this company means to Dr. Chethana. An empty stage is not nothing; it is potential. A physician looks at a patient and sees who they could be when well. A producer looks at an empty ground and sees thirty thousand people singing. The slogan makes that act of imagination the company's starting point for every project.

The results since 2023 suggest the imagination is backed by execution: close to thirty productions, more than 3.5 lakh tickets sold, over Rs 20 crore in combined ticketing and brand-partnership value, and venues ranging from KTPO Whitefield and NICE Grounds to The Leela Palace Bengaluru.

For Dr. Chethana, then, founding Kalaluha meant fusing everything she is into one enterprise: the artist who knows what a stage demands, the doctor who knows what a crowd needs, and the producer who knows how to deliver both at scale. The fire in the name is not decoration. Read her story at her team page, meet her co-founder at Vishal R S's page, and see what the empty stages became in the gallery.
