Vijay Yesudas at Crazy Brahma: A Voice and Its Lineage, Live

Carrying a famous surname in music is a burden. Carrying it the way Vijay Yesudas does is an achievement. On 30 May 2026, at JK Grand Arena Kengeri, he was among the voices of Crazy Brahma, the grand tribute to V. Ravichandran and Hamsalekha presented by Prastut Innovation Creation and Solutions in association with Kalaluha. In an evening dedicated to legacy, he was perhaps its most fitting performer: a singer whose entire career is a conversation with legacy, conducted on his own terms.

The son who became his own singer

Vijay Yesudas is the son of K.J. Yesudas, one of the most revered names in Indian music, which means he began his career under the largest shadow the profession can cast. What he did with that inheritance is the story: three Kerala State Film Awards, earned in his own voice, in his own era, on his own material. State awards are not given to surnames. They are given to performances. Three of them establish, beyond argument, that Vijay Yesudas belongs on any stage as himself, and that is exactly how he stood on ours.

Crazy Brahma was constructed entirely around inheritance: 65 years of Ravichandran, 51 years of Eshwari Combines, more than four decades of the Ravichandran-Hamsalekha collaboration that shaped Kannada film music. Into that evening walked a singer who understands inheritance from the inside. When Vijay Yesudas sang from the Hamsalekha songbook, the arena was watching one musical lineage pay tribute to another, and the resonance was not lost on anyone. He shared the stage with Rajesh Krishnan, Mano, Anuradha Bhat and Madhu Balakrishnan, a lineup whose collective experience spans tens of thousands of recordings, with Anushree anchoring the night under the theme line Where Music Meets Magic.
