Abhijeet Bhattacharya at Melody Milap: A 90s Voice, Live in Bengaluru

For anyone who grew up in the 1990s, Abhijeet Bhattacharya's voice is not nostalgia, it is autobiography. On 23 August 2025, that voice filled a Bengaluru evening called Melody Milap, produced with Naad Nirvana and Elz Cherry Shows, hosted by Raghav Juyal, with Bengaluru's own Elz Cherry as co-singer. Kalaluha staged the night, and watching a hall full of people sing three decades of memories back at the man who recorded them is not something you forget.

The catalogue behind the man

The scale of Abhijeet Bhattacharya's career is hard to overstate: more than 6,000 songs across more than 1,000 films. For a generation, he was the defining playback voice of Shah Rukh Khan, the sound behind DDLJ, Baadshah and Main Hoon Na, the singer whose phrasing became inseparable from the biggest star of the era. A Filmfare Award sits in that career too, but the truer measure of the man walked into our venue that evening: an audience that knew every word before he sang it.

Building Melody Milap

A legacy artist show is a specific craft. The audience is not discovering the music, they are reuniting with it, so the evening has to be structured like a reunion: generous, unhurried, full of recognition. Raghav Juyal, the Dance Plus host and an IIFA winner for Kill (2024), held the evening together as host, giving the night warmth and pace between songs. Elz Cherry, a Bengaluru singer who has become a familiar presence on our stages, shared vocal duties as co-singer, and the collaboration with Naad Nirvana and Elz Cherry Shows brought partners who understood exactly what this catalogue means to its audience.

Closing the distance

Melody Milap also carried a meet and greet programme, and that detail says something about the philosophy of the night. For thirty years, this voice reached its audience through cinema halls, cassettes and radio. The meet and greet collapsed that distance entirely: the voice of DDLJ, in the same room, within handshake range. Why the 90s still fill rooms

There is a reason a playback singer from the cassette era can headline a 2025 evening: those songs were built to be sung along to, and their audience has never stopped. What has changed is the expectation of the night itself. Today's audience wants the memory delivered with modern production values, clean sound, considered staging, an evening that respects both the artist's stature and their own time. That is the gap Kalaluha exists to close. Since 2023 we have produced close to thirty shows on exactly that principle, from contemporary superstars to voices that soundtracked a generation.
