V. Ravichandran at Crazy Brahma: 65 Years of the Crazy Star

Kannada cinema has stars, and then it has the Crazy Star. On 30 May 2026, at JK Grand Arena Kengeri, an evening called Crazy Brahma gathered to honour V. Ravichandran alongside his greatest collaborator, Hamsalekha. The numbers being celebrated were extraordinary: 65 years of Ravichandran, 51 years of Eshwari Combines, and more than four decades of a partnership that changed Kannada film music. Presented by Prastut Innovation Creation and Solutions in association with Kalaluha, under the theme line Where Music Meets Magic, it was the kind of night a production company waits its whole existence to stage.

The man being honoured

V. Ravichandran is that rarest of film figures: actor, director and producer in one, and dominant in all three. Since Premaloka in 1987 he has shaped Kannada cinema's idea of style and spectacle, with films like Ramachari and Ranadheera cementing a screen persona audiences simply call the Crazy Star. Eshwari Combines, the banner behind so much of that work, reached 51 years, a production legacy that predates and then powered his stardom. To honour him properly, the evening had to match his own standards of showmanship, because no one in Kannada cinema has cared more about how things look and sound on a big canvas.

The voices that sang his songs back to him

The tribute took its most powerful form as music. Vijay Yesudas, Rajesh Krishnan, Mano, Anuradha Bhat and Madhu Balakrishnan, singers whose combined careers span tens of thousands of recordings, performed through the evening, with Anushree, one of Kannada television's leading anchors, holding the night together. Singing the Ravichandran-Hamsalekha songbook to the men who made it, with both legacies in the room, gave the arena a charge no ordinary concert generates. These were not covers. They were offerings.

Producing a tribute worthy of a showman

A tribute to V. Ravichandran cannot be staged timidly. His own cinema set the bar for scale, so the production at JK Grand Arena Kengeri leaned into it: full concert staging, show direction that treated the evening as a narrative about a career, and the visual discipline Kalaluha applies to everything through the standards of our creative team, from Vaibhav B. Bharadwaj on creative direction to the artwork that framed the night. The Kannada press understood what the evening meant: coverage ran across dailies and channels including Vishwavani, Udayavani, Kannada Prabha, Asianet, TV9 and Eesanje.

Why nights like this matter

Kalaluha's mission is to bring India's art forms, music and stories onto bigger stages, and sometimes the story is a person. Sixty five years of a life, fifty one years of a banner, four decades of a collaboration: these are cultural infrastructure, and celebrating them live, in front of the audience that built them, is how a film culture honours itself while its legends can take the bow in person. Where Music Meets Magic was the theme line. In truth, the magic was simply presence: the Crazy Star, his music, and an arena that grew up on both.
