Producing at Lakeside, Orion Mall: Kalaluha's Kailash Kher Night

On 7 October 2023, Padma Shri Kailash Kher and Band Kailasa performed at Lakeside at Orion Mall, Brigade Gateway, and the setting did half the storytelling before a note was sung: a stage by the water, a mall precinct turned amphitheatre, the city's evening settling over the lake as the voice of Teri Deewani and Saiyyan rose into it. It remains one of Kalaluha's early defining nights, and it taught us what this unusual venue can do.

A venue unlike the usual circuit

Most Bengaluru concert options fall into two buckets: enclosed halls or open grounds. Lakeside at Orion Mall belongs to neither. It sits inside the Brigade Gateway precinct with the mall's amenities at its back and the lake as its horizon, which gives a producer a rare combination: an open-air atmosphere with an urban infrastructure spine. The waterfront setting flatters a show visually in a way no indoor venue can, and the mall context brings audiences into an environment they already know how to navigate. The night itself

The concert was presented with RED FM as radio partner, and the bill was built with intent: Rahul Dit-O, one of Kannada hip hop's leading voices, opened the night before Kailasa took the stage. That pairing said something about Kalaluha's instincts even in 2023, our founding year: a Kannada rapper warming a crowd for a Padma Shri Sufi-rock voice is exactly the kind of bridge between audiences we love to build. For a company founded that same year, staging a Padma Shri artist at a marquee venue was a statement of the standard we intended to keep.

What the setting demands from production

A lakeside mall venue rewards producers who respect its particulars. Sound must be shaped for open air while sitting inside a mixed-use precinct. Crowd flow shares space with a functioning mall, so entry, egress and audience comfort have to be designed with the venue's daily life in mind rather than imposed over it. Sight lines toward a waterside stage need planning so the setting enhances rather than distracts. None of this is exotic for a team with real production discipline, but all of it punishes assumption.
