New Horizon College: The Venue Behind Shreya Ghoshal's Sold-Out Night

On 11 May 2024, the grounds of New Horizon College of Engineering in Bengaluru held a sold-out crowd for Shreya Ghoshal's All Hearts Tour, presented by Superhits 93.5 RED FM and Kalaluha under the RED LIVE in Concert banner. A college campus might seem an unusual home for one of India's biggest playback voices, a five-time National Film Award winner and the first Indian singer honoured with a Madame Tussauds statue. As the producers of that night, we can tell you why it worked.

Campuses as concert grounds

A college ground offers a production team a rare combination: open space inside the city. Bengaluru's traffic geography makes this valuable beyond measure. Your audience can actually reach the venue, and your trucks can actually reach the site. Campuses also come with existing infrastructure that raw grounds lack: access roads, defined entry points, and an administration used to managing thousands of people on a normal day.

What a campus does not come with is a concert. Stage, sound, light, barricading, power and crowd systems are all built from scratch, the same as any greenfield show. Our Large Format Productions checklist applies in full: set engineering, LED and screens, power and crew logistics, and the safety, permissions and clearances file that a venue shared with an academic institution makes especially important. You are a guest on that ground, and the production must behave like one.

Producing a sold-out night

Sold out changes the job. When every ticket is gone, the pressure moves from selling the show to delivering it: entry flow for a full house, sightlines that hold up at the back, and sound that carries the most loved voice in Indian playback to every corner of the ground. Shreya Ghoshal's catalogue spans languages and generations, which meant the audience that night was not one crowd but several, families and students and film-music devotees, all needing the same clean experience.

The partnership structure mattered too. RED FM as presenting radio partner gave the show a promotional engine across the city, and the RED LIVE in Concert property gave it a frame audiences already trusted. Explocity's coverage afterwards described Kalaluha as a company known for creativity and dedication to exceptional musical experiences, which we took as confirmation that the invisible work, the flow and the finish, was felt even if it was not seen.

What organisers should take from this

If you are scouting a campus venue for a major artist, negotiate the operational details as carefully as the date. Load-in timing around the institution's calendar, ground protection, and a clear map of what the campus provides versus what you build will save you from every avoidable argument. And plan your egress as seriously as your entry: a sold-out crowd leaves all at once.

The full story of the night lives at Shreya Ghoshal, All Hearts Tour, and press from it sits on our press page. It remains one of the productions we point to when explaining what our Live Concert Experiences practice does at full stretch: booking, production, promotion and show direction converging on one evening where an empty college ground became, briefly, the centre of the city's musical life.
