Experiential Marketing Lessons from Producing Live Nights: Vaibhav B Bharadwaj

Experiential marketing is a phrase agencies put in decks. Producers live the unglamorous version of it, one load-in at a time. Vaibhav B Bharadwaj works both sides: founder and CEO of The House of Edits, a creative agency, and Creative Director at Kalaluha, the Bengaluru live-event company. Producing real nights for real crowds has taught him things no case study could. Here are the ones he rates.
The audience is the medium
A brand can buy impressions. It cannot buy the moment a person turns to a stranger and sings the same line. Live nights create that, and the audience then broadcasts it themselves, clip by clip, story by story. The lesson for any experiential campaign: stop thinking of attendees as targets and start thinking of them as the channel. Design moments worth retelling and distribution takes care of itself.
Place speaks before the artist does
Venue choice is a message. Kailash Kher Live at Orion Mall in 2023 met the city where it already gathers. Hip-Hop Kannadigaru at The Leela Palace made a statement about where Kannada hip-hop belongs. Before a single note is played, the room has told the audience what kind of night this is and how much the organiser respects them. Brands planning experiences should choose place with the same care they give a headline.
Every touchpoint is the campaign
On a live night there is no backstage for the brand. The queue, the signage, the wristband, the sound in the far corner of the ground: all of it is the experience, and the audience grades the whole of it. Vaibhav's remit at Kalaluha spans creative direction, event marketing, audience engagement and sponsorship communication for exactly this reason. The night is one continuous piece of communication, and it is only as strong as its worst touchpoint.
Leave something behind
His belief, applied to every project: every event should leave something behind. Kalaluha builds properties designed to return, like Television Cricket League, its Kannada television celebrity cricket property. A returning property compounds. Year one buys awareness. Year three owns a date in the city's calendar. The experiential lesson for brands is patience. A one-off activation rents attention. A repeatable property earns loyalty.
The through-line in all of it is his standard: inspire trust, hold attention, create lasting value. A live night compresses those three into a few hours with no retakes. That is why production is the best experiential marketing school there is. More from the Kalaluha team is on the journal.
