Designing Youth-Centric Events for Bengaluru: Notes from Vaibhav B Bharadwaj

Bengaluru audiences are quick to judge and quicker to share. The city's crowds grew up online, compare every night to the best they have seen, and vote with their weekends. Much of Kalaluha's roster is built for that younger crowd, and designing those nights is a specific craft. Vaibhav B Bharadwaj, the company's Creative Director, approaches it with a few firm rules.
Take the taste seriously
The first mistake companies make with young audiences is condescension: chasing trends instead of respecting taste. Kalaluha's approach is to book and build for scenes that already have real followings. Hip Hop Tamizha at NICE Grounds in 2025 brought a major hip-hop act to a large outdoor format. Hip-Hop Kannadigaru took Kannada hip-hop to The Leela Palace with its Retro to Metro theme. Placing a young genre in a palace hotel is itself a statement: this music belongs in the city's best rooms. Young audiences notice when they are being taken seriously. They also notice when they are being pandered to.
Design for the phone in the crowd
A youth-centric night is broadcast by its own audience in real time. Vaibhav designs for that. The stage look, the lighting and the key moments should read clearly in a vertical phone frame, because that is how most of the city will see them. Every attendee is a channel. The design either gives them something worth posting or it does not. That does not mean turning a concert into a content shoot. The room comes first. But a look that works only in person is half a look.
The room is part of the lineup
Format matters as much as booking. Akcent Live at RCB Bar and Cafe put an international act in a close, high-energy room. Kannada DJ Night, the club property where the company began, with its first edition in February 2022 featuring NKM, was built on proximity: the DJ, the floor, no distance between them. Younger audiences often value intensity over scale. A packed room beats a half-full ground, every time.
Energy is designed, not hoped for
The arc of a young crowd's night has to be planned like a setlist. Entry experience, opening energy, peak moments, the close. Vaibhav's job is to decide how the night should feel hour by hour and make every production choice serve that. Sound, light, pacing, even the queue outside carry the design.
What stays constant underneath is the Kalaluha standard he applies to every project: inspire trust, hold attention, create lasting value. A young audience gives you one chance. Deliver a night they trust, and they bring their friends to the next one. That is how club properties become fixtures, and how a company founded in 2023 keeps its youngest audiences coming back.
