Music from the Valley: Why Vishal R S Is Building a Ten-City Live IP Rooted in Kashmir

Music from the Valley is the first original IP that Kalaluha plans as a long-running cultural property. The shape is set: a ten-city premium live experience rooted in Kashmir, featuring santoor maestro Pandit Rahul Sharma. Behind it stands Vishal R S, Co-Founder and Head of Strategy at the Bengaluru live-event and concert production company. This is why he is building it.

The answer to the third question

Vishal asks three questions of every Kalaluha project. Can this be sharper? Can this mean more? Can this outlive a single night? Music from the Valley exists because of the third. A concert ends when the lights come up. A property keeps going: edition after edition, city after city, year after year. Kalaluha's roadmap treats original IPs as long-running cultural properties, and this is the first one built to that specification from day one.

Why ten cities

A single city makes an event. Ten cities make a property. The run gives the experience time to compound: each city teaches the next one, the production tightens with repetition, and the property builds a national audience instead of a local memory. For partners, a ten-city run is a relationship rather than a transaction. For the team, it is the difference between staging a show and operating one.

None of this is romance. It is portfolio logic applied to culture. Spread the effort across editions, and let each edition raise the value of all the others.

Why Kashmir, and why the santoor

Premium is easy to claim and hard to mean. Music from the Valley means it through rootedness. The experience is rooted in Kashmir, and it is carried by the santoor in the hands of its maestro, Pandit Rahul Sharma. The place and the instrument are not a theme applied to a concert. They are the concert.

This is also where Vishal's less-known qualification matters. He holds a Trinity College London Grade 8 in music theory. A santoor-led premium property is a musically literate bet, and it is being made by a producer who can read the score he is betting on.

Built on a working machine

Ambition needs machinery underneath it. Since 2023, Kalaluha has delivered close to thirty productions, sold more than 3.5 lakh tickets and generated over Rs 20 crore in combined ticketing and brand-partnership value. The company founded by Dr. Chethana R S and Vishal R S has staged the sold-out Shreya Ghoshal All Hearts Tour and large-format nights across Bengaluru. A ten-city premium run is a serious undertaking. It is being attempted by a team whose record says it can deliver the night, and then deliver it again.

Kalaluha's philosophy is that every unforgettable night begins with an empty stage. Music from the Valley proposes ten of them, in ten cities, waiting for the santoor. That is the kind of sentence Vishal builds plans around: measured, ambitious, and answerable to all three of his questions at once.
