Kailash Kher Live at Orion Mall: Kalaluha's Lakeside Evening

Some venues you book. Others you discover. On 7 October 2023, Kalaluha staged Padma Shri Kailash Kher and Band Kailasa at Lakeside at Orion Mall, Brigade Gateway, and turned a stretch of Bengaluru's mall waterfront into a concert ground. With RED FM as radio partner and Kannada rapper Rahul Dit-O opening, it was one of the defining nights of our founding year.

The setting

Lakeside at Orion Mall is exactly what it sounds like: open air, water on one side, the city's evening light on the other. It is not a conventional concert venue, which is precisely why it worked. Part of Kalaluha's craft is venue transformation, taking a space people know for one purpose and revealing what it can be for a night. An audience that arrives at a familiar mall and finds a full concert production waiting by the water starts the evening already delighted.

Coverage of the show captured the framing plainly. As Malls Market put it, the concert was "Presented to you by Kalaluha, an initiative by Chethana RS." For a company founded that very year, seeing our name attached to an artist of this stature in print was its own small milestone.

The opener and the main act

Rahul Dit-O opened the night, bringing Kannada hip-hop energy to warm the lakeside crowd. Pairing a homegrown Bengaluru rapper with a national Sufi-rock icon was a deliberate choice: it told the audience this was a Bengaluru night first, not a touring stop that happened to land here. Rahul Dit-O has remained part of the Kalaluha story since, later headlining our Hip Hop Kannadigaru property at The Leela Palace.

Then came Kailash Kher. The Padma Shri awardee, the voice behind Teri Deewani and Saiyyan, backed by Band Kailasa. His music sits somewhere between concert and gathering, drawing on Sufi tradition with a voice that seems built for open air. By the water, with the crowd pressed close, songs the audience had known for years took on the scale they were always meant for. There are singers you listen to and singers you sing with. Kailash Kher is emphatically the second kind, and the lakeside proved it.

Why the night mattered

October 2023 was early days for Kalaluha. We had a name, a mission to bring India's music and stories onto bigger stages, and a slogan about every unforgettable night beginning with an empty stage. What we needed was proof. This show was proof: a Padma Shri artist, a national radio partner in RED FM, an unconventional venue made to work, and a crowd that went home full. The confidence to later take on sold out arena-scale nights, international acts and festival productions was built on evenings like this one.

It also established a pattern we still follow: give local artists real stages beside national names, choose venues with character over convenience, and treat every partner, from radio to venue, as co-author of the night.
