From IIT Roorkee to Live Events: The Vishal R S Route

Nobody at IIT Roorkee hands out a career map that ends at a concert ground in Bengaluru. Vishal R S drew that route himself, and the way he did it says a lot about how Kalaluha, the company he co-founded, actually works. This is not a story of an engineer abandoning numbers for glamour. It is a story of someone carrying numbers into a business that badly needs them.

Working before eighteen

Vishal's professional life started before he turned eighteen. Most biographies bury a fact like that; his is built on it. Starting that early means learning responsibility, client trust and consequence at an age when most people are still learning timetables. The IIT Roorkee education that followed added rigour to instinct: the habit of breaking large problems into solvable parts, which is, as it happens, an exact description of producing a large-format show.

Finance as a first language

Out of that foundation grew a serious financial career. Vishal runs a money-management platform with over Rs 30 crore under management, and advises companies as a virtual CFO. A virtual CFO sees dozens of businesses from the inside: what makes them healthy, what quietly kills them, where discipline pays. It is hard to imagine better preparation for live events, an industry where a single show can involve artist fees, venue costs, stage and LED production, crew, permissions, ticketing platforms and sponsor commitments, all converging on one immovable date.

There is one more credential, easy to miss and impossible to fake: a Trinity College London Grade 8 in music theory. The examination ladder tops out at Grade 8. So the co-founder who models a concert's finances can also follow its harmony. In a business where money people and music people often talk past each other, Vishal is both people.

The leap, and what it built

In 2023, Vishal co-founded Kalaluha with his sibling Dr. Chethana R S, taking the seat of Head of Strategy, Finance and Operations. The results since then have been anything but tentative: close to thirty productions, more than 3.5 lakh tickets sold, over Rs 20 crore in combined ticketing and brand-partnership value, and a client-facing roster that includes Shreya Ghoshal, Padma Shri Kailash Kher, Sid Sriram, Hiphop Tamizha and Akcent.

His approach is captured in the three questions he asks of every show: Can this be sharper? Can this mean more? Can this outlive a single night? The third question is the IIT signature. Engineers build systems, not one-off artefacts, and Vishal's answer to it is original IP: he plans properties like Music from the Valley, a Kashmir-rooted, ten-city premium live experience with santoor maestro Pandit Rahul Sharma.

The route from Roorkee to a Bengaluru stage looks improbable only from the outside. From the inside it is one continuous line: start early, master systems, master money, then apply all of it to the hardest system of all, which is a live show that must be perfect exactly once, at exactly the announced hour.
